What is the Meaning & Definition of agro-industry
The agro-industry is a branch of industry which, in turn, is divided into two activities, on the one hand, food, that is in charge of the transformation of products from agriculture, stockbreeding, pesa, forest wealth, among others, in products for consumption. And on the other hand, non-food deals with the transformation of raw materials using their natural resources for the production of different products. The scope of it is really broad, including for example the design of equipment for industries, as well as the management of industries.
Note, that agribusiness can be two scenarios: processes of selection of quality, classification according to the sizes, packing and packaging, storage of agricultural production, are made even though not made the transformation mentioned; and on the other hand the transformations both by-products obtained from the primary processing of raw agricultural products.
A salient characteristic is that the agricultural product has a harvest period ranging from several weeks to several months and at the same time must be processed fresh, situation involving in some cases from a few hours to about two or three days after their arrival at the plant; the period lengthens it is cultivating different varieties, some early and other documents and in other cases by storing part of the harvest in refrigerators.
With respect to the life of the raw material, products from agriculture are variable life, such as: milk, flowers and meat (few hours); flowers, vegetables and fruit (several days) and wood and grains (several months), therefore, the function of agribusiness is the extend weeks or months the life of them.
There are different ways to acquire raw: industrialist hires the gangs who cultivated the plots; the producer brings the harvest to plant; by consignment, the industrial production to the market price for sale on behalf of the producer and also charges for its service; and service: the industrial returns to the producer material processing and charge for this service.
Agro-industrial plants work only one part of the year because there are few products that occur in all seasons such as: milk, eggs, meats, vegetables and gourds.
