The human being communicates using the language which is the perfect code to establish an interpersonal dialogue and connect with another human being and their emotional world. The analysis can be object of study in itself. In this article, we reflect on the so-called features of the language.
The importance of the transmitter and receiver in the communication
Firstly, it should explain what are the main factors involved in the communication process: the issuer is who sends a message to a receiver using a particular code to transmit a message. This message is also transmitted via a particular channel (for example, by written communication or by oral communication).
Below we explain what are the features of the language:
Denotative aspect
1 denotative function refers to information that the sender transmitted to the receiver. For example: "today it rains and get cold". It is a type of information that tends to be more objective.
The field of the emotive
2. the human being is a being that it feels, therefore, feelings also have a reflection on communication. In that case, emotional or expressive function of the language shows, precisely, those expressions in which a person reveals his way of feeling. Feels an emotion in that message. The expressive function also refers to the manifestation of a personal desire. Examples of denotative language function: "I'm sad because I've discussed with my partner", "what a shame, I have not passed the examination", "I'm nervous before the job interview".
The appellate function
3. the appellate function of the language expresses a function in which the person wants to draw the attention of the interlocutor, a direct appeal is that it provides a response. For example, "Hey, come over here".
Poetic expressions
4. the poetic function of language is especially used to put the attention point in the aesthetic factor message wanting to convey beauty through the words. The aesthetic function is also used by those people who write poetry or literature.
Metalinguistic ability
5. the metalinguistic function of language refers to the ability that has to speak through the language about the language being. For example: "this letter is divided into short paragraphs and short sentences", "in this poem are the adjectives".
Initiating or firing a dialogue
6. the phatic function refers to the time to strike up a conversation with someone or breaking contact. For example, "Hello, good morning", "which so are you", "Goodbye", "Goodbye".
