Intimate is something that belongs to the personal sphere of an individual. It is used as a synonym for private and opposes that which is public. Individuals are listed in different planes or levels: Professional, emotional, family, etc. A couple has a deep emotional bond, a union ties. They share moments where there is nobody more than them. They are the intimate moments. Intimacy refers to an individual or shared activity in a very restricted way.
In the media are often famous people (celebrities) and you write or talk about them usually from a professional approach (performances, films or their profession-specific acts).
