What is the Meaning & Definition of Popular initiative

We understand by popular initiative to that instance in which people can submit a proposal for legislation which will be treated in the relevant legislative body and that can eventually become law sovereignly. The notion of popular initiative is relatively new in the field of politics if we bear in mind that policy became popular in the last few centuries right and actually since then can people participate in different instances. It is clear that in a democratic system the main instance of participation is suffrage or voting when there are elections, but then other lesser-known options are found on the road but it is no less important. The popular initiative is one of them and has as main objective the different sectors of the society may present Bills to legislative bodies to make them treat them. In many cases, these proposals usually have to do with direct needs of the people or of the sector in question which are not being taken into account or served by different branches of the Government.
The requirements for the submission of a popular initiative vary greatly depending on the region or country to be determined by them, but in the majority of cases must be validated with a minimum number of signatures proving that it is not a particular project or individual if not that is something that concerns a large part of the population. In other cases, some countries have limits on the topics or areas on which a project of this type may occur and this is when for example it comes to issues such as the budget, the Constitution, the powers of the State, etc.
In general, many are not popular initiatives that reach legislative bodies since they require a large number of accessions and must also overcome possible games that occur within the legislative body in question that prevents to be treated. In addition, it is very common that such popular initiatives are related to social, economic or cultural issues that directly affect the people.
